Explanation of Congressional Issues

 

1 - Homosexual Marriage: Y means the Representative voted to prevent the federal government from recognizing "gay marriages," and prohibit states from being forced to honor another state's legal gay marriages. The "Defense of Marriage Act" (DOMA). 07/12/96.
2 - Partial-Birth Abortion: Y means the Representative voted to outlaw partial delivery of babies then killing them just before the head emerges from the birth canal. Exception permitted if the life of the mother is somehow endangered. Vote # 756, 11/01/95.
3 - Lobbyist Welfare: Y means the Representative voted to stop organizations from getting federal dollars and then using that tax money to lobby for more dollars. Vote # 622, 08/3/95.
4 - Anti-Crime Bill: Y means the Representative voted to shift money from "mid-night basketball" & "dance classes" to prisons and police. Vote # 129, 02/14/95.
5 - Tax Relief: Y means the Representative voted for cutting taxes, balancing budget in 7 years and permitting a $500 per-child tax credit. The Balanced Budget bill. Vote # 743, 10/26/95.
6 - Balanced Budget Amendment: Y means the Representative voted to require that the federal government operate within a balanced budget. 2/3rd of states would have had to ratify. A Joint Resolution. Vote # 51, 01/26/95.
7 - Limit UN Command of US Military Forces: Y means the Representative voted to stop expansion of the President's power to place U.S. troops under United Nations command. The Leach Amendment. Vote # 142, 02/16/95.
