Explanation of Congressional Issues

 

1. Homosexual Marriage: Y - Member voted to prevent the federal government from recognizing "gay marriages," and prevent states from being forced to honor another state’s legal gay marriages. The "Defense of Marriage Act" (DOMA). Vote #’s 316, HR 3396; 280, HR 3396 Senate.
2. Coerced-hiring of Bisexuals: Y - Member voted to prohibit federal government jobs advocacy on behalf of "sexual minorities." Vote #’s 398, H Amd 855; 281, S 2056.
3. Tax Funding of Abortions: Y - Member voted in opposition to funding. Hyde Amd House; Kerrey Amd Senate.
4. Prohibiting Overseas Military Hospital Abortions: Y - Member voted against lifting the 1995 abortion ban. Vote #’s 217, Harman Amd House; 167, Murray Amd Senate.
5. Ban Federal Tax Dollars for Abortions within Foreign Populations: Y - Member voted to not fund foreign abortion policy advocates or providers. Vote #’s 194, Smith (C) Amd House; 13, HJR36 Senate.
6. Partial-Birth Abortion: Y - Member voted to outlaw partial delivery of babies and killing them just before the head emerges from the birth canal. Exception permitted if the life of the mother is somehow endangered. Vote #’s 325, HR 1122 House; 71, HR 1122 Senate.
