Marriage In America - 1998
Trying to End Marriage Penalty.
FRC is urging Congress to relieve the burden of increased taxation on married couples which results simply because a couple's joint income pushes them into a higher tax bracket. Now House and Senate members are discussing a variety of proposals which seek to end the "marriage penalty." Congress should eliminate this discriminatory provision immediately and they should do so in a way that treats single and dual earner families equally. This equity would recognize the economic sacrifice many at-home parents make to care for their children. A tax code that penalizes a couple for marriage is one that is antagonistic to a marriage which is the bedrock of a stable society. Please call your representative and senators and urge them to end the marriage penalty. The Capitol switchboard number for the Senate is 202-224-3121; for the House, 202-225-3121.
