FRC Releases Poll on Drugs.

On Thursday, February 26, Family Research Council released the results of a commissioned poll which revealed that Americans believe the problem of drug use is extremely urgent and that family breakdown is the prime culprit of the crisis. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the most urgent, 50 percent ranked the problem as a 9 or 10 and 74 percent of voters said they would tell their members of Congress to make illegal drug use a high priority. At a news conference Thursday, Family Research Council President Gary Bauer and Speaker Newt Gingrich discussed the need to "escalate the war on drugs" and released the poll results. They were joined by Reps. Bill McCollum (R-FL), and Rob Portman (R-OH) who focused on various aspects of the drug problem and addressed possible solutions. Rep. McCollom recently introduced a resolution condemning the legalization of marijuana. Although the resolution is non-binding, it discourages state initiatives that attempt to legalize marijuana under the premise that it is medically beneficial. The resolution is expected to be voted on by members of the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, March 3. If you would like more information about the drug poll, please call FRC at 1-800-225-4008.
