To understand Leftism, especially the American
variant, one need look no further than a telling document from 1933: Humanist
Manifesto I (please take a look at it).
Founding signers such as John Dewey laid down a carefully thought out plan for replacing the Judeo-Christian ethic of America with a humanistic, man-centered one. They believed that old "outmoded" belief systems were harmful to a highly developed race of humans which needed to base its assumptions on rapidly growing scientific information.
I encourage doubters to take a look at the document. Then compare it to, say, the Platform of the Democrat Party, Resolutions by the National Education Association (N.E.A.), efforts by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and, significantly, the statements of faith of today's liberal religious organizations, including formerly scripture-believing mainline denominations.
Identical language and goals will be found.
America's public schools function almost exclusively on the principles found in the Manifesto. And, not surprising, references to any traditional understanding of America's founding - and the worldview which informed and motivated it - have been virtually sanitized from the education process. Students enjoy a few weeks off during the Christmas holiday season, but their school program is now a "Winter Festival," and any music performed by choirs or bands must endure a thorough screening in order to eliminate potentially offending, subversive, faith-based material.
The above facts are due to a feature of Humanism which is openly discussed in the Manifesto:
"THIRTEENTH: Religious humanism maintains that all associations and institutions exist for the fulfillment of human life. The intelligent evaluation, transformation, control, and direction of such associations and institutions with a view to the enhancement of human life is the purpose and program of humanism. Certainly religious institutions, their ritualistic forms, ecclesiastical methods, and communal activities must be reconstituted as rapidly as experience allows, in order to function effectively in the modern world."
In this affirmation we find that the entire "purpose and program of humanism" (Did you catch the admission that Humanism is indeed "religious"?) is nothing less than the actual control of "all associations and institutions."
In the book "Preface to Philosophy" (MacMillan Co., 1946), in a chapter titled "Humanism: A Modern Religion," John Dewey writes: "In the degree in which we cease to depend upon belief in the supernatural, selection is enlightened and choice can be made in behalf of ideals whose inherent relations to conditions and consequences are understood."
We certainly have become enlightened. Jack Kevorkian runs around the country killing people (some are not terminally ill at all) while law enforcement and supposedly responsible public officials look on in paralysis, we have butchered over 30 Million innocent unborn children, classrooms are battle zones where teachers and students are raped or shot, criminals are given every consideration, divorce is rampant, the President of the United States is a known philanderer and crooked deal-maker, Congress is filled with career politicians who line their pockets from the public trough, medical 'ethicists' are in the midst of determining which life is deserving of transplants and expensive treatments and - necessarily - who must die, the formerly proud profession of journalism now interprets "Freedom of the Press" to mean the freedom to censor information and indoctrinate an unsuspecting public, school children are taught how to put condoms on bananas and how to cover their eyes, ignore biological reality and pretend that homosexuality is the legal, cultural and public health equivalent of heterosexual marriage.
Any who object to the tenets of Humanism and attempt to defend traditional values are immediately and viciously attacked. The reason? They are not true believers. They have offended the priesthood of a new, elitist belief system which has taken control of American institutions.
In short, leftists have a messiah complex, and their condition is aggravated by the fact that they are convinced that their firmly held beliefs should be financed by the tax dollars of the unwashed masses.
PC leftists are, in every sense of the word, religious fanatics. Very dangerous ones at that, since most of their public policy gains have resulted in failures and cultural chaos.
If American citizens continue to enjoy their recent electoral successes and the trend toward a return to conservatism is prolonged, I predict that the last of these "messiahs" to have their influence stripped away will be those found in America's educational institutions. They will go, kicking and screaming, convinced that with just one more massive infusion of tax dollars, they would have solved education's problems and helped children to become good little global citizens.
The Humanist Manifesto II (1973), should also be examined, as it sheds light on the antics of those who seek to establish control on a global basis:
"World Community
TWELFTH: We deplore the division of humankind on nationalistic grounds. We have reached a turning point in human history where the best option is to transcend the limits of national sovereignty and to move toward the building of a world community in which all sectors of the human family can participate. Thus we look to the development of a system of world law and a world order based upon transnational federal government.
This would appreciate cultural pluralism and diversity. It would not exclude pride in national origins and accomplishments nor the handling of regional problems on a regional basis. Human progress, however, can no longer be achieved by focusing on one section of the world, Western or Eastern, developed or underdeveloped. For the first time in human history, no part of humankind can be isolated from any other. Each person's future is in some way linked to all. We thus reaffirm a commitment to the building of world community, at the same time recognizing that this commits us to some hard choices."
Eliminate nations! Notice the important role of appreciation of "cultural pluralism" (All cultures are morally equivalent?), and "diversity" (And here we thought that word just sort of popped into 90's culture and speech!).
While American public schools have real difficulty graduating students who are able to demonstrate any substantial academic achievement, across the nation, students get plenty of 'quality time' working on "multiculturalism" projects (the media come and do breathless, gushing stories on these wonderful activities and, of course, what adult can avoid admiring the cute pictures of earnest little kids working hard to become true "world citizens?" And no public school would be complete without teaching about "diversity," would it?
Parents and other troglodytes who disagree with these concepts are isolated and stonewalled as "bigoted, ethnocentric homophobes." And the tenets of Humanism march forward.
There should indeed be no confusion as to the origins of PC Leftism. The elitist road map to the 21st century is easily studied and understood. Isn't it inspiring to know that we are all evolving upward to a New Age of higher consciousness, peace, love and global brotherhood? All you have to do is surrender your children and knuckle under.
