Pineapples Aren't Us?

The state of Hawaii may soon become famous for a new export.

Vancouver, WA--Will the state of Washington - or your state - be willing to import Hawaiian same-sex marriages or "domestic partnerships" with full legal status? If state legislatures fail to act decisively, there may be no other choice.

On December 6, 1995 the final report of the Hawaii Commission on Sexual Orientation and the Law will be sent to the state legislature for action. While the legislature is expected to reject the Commission's recommendation that same-sex marriages be given the same status as heterosexual marriage, an important pending state Supreme Court decision could well override the legislature and impose such fully lawful marriages on Hawaii.

As the result of a carefully crafted special interest strategy, the Hawaiian Supreme Court will hear arguments on July 15, 1996 regarding whether the state has a compelling reason to restrict marriages to hetereosexuals only. Since the Attorney General making the argument for the state is decidedly pro-homosexual, there is strong reason to believe that the case will be deliberately "thrown" and that no appeal will be sought.

Within 30 days of such action, same-sex marriages will be legal in the state of Hawaii.

Same-sex couples who then travel to Hawaii for purposes of "matrimony" could, upon entering Washingon or any other state, legitimately demand that their marital status be recognized in the same manner as that of heterosexual marriages from other states.

The sociological and economic effects on our culture would be staggering. The universally recognized traditional family unit - husband, wife and offspring - which provides the foundation, structure and stability of any successful society would be rendered irrelevant. All this for the sake of politically sophisticated special interests who are defined solely by their means of achieving sexual gratification.

If this sounds far-fetched or unlikely, consider that in Washington state, Governor Mike Lowry's Executive Order 93-07 (which carries the force of law even though it defied the will of the Legislature), created a special "liaison" and "advocate" operating from the governor's policy office with the duty of attending to "issues specific to gay men and lesbians in the state."

It is more inevitable than likely that Governor Lowry, who has repeatedly and unabashedly shown his willingness to lavish special attention on pro-homosexual causes, would waste no time in declaring Washington state's eagerness to honor same-sex marriages from other states.

The only sure way to prevent this strategically brilliant, continent-wide spread of officially recognized same-sex marriages is for each state legislature, in sessions about to begin, to amend its constitution with clear wording which accords legal status to heterosexual marriages only.
