EXPECT FAMILY-FRIENDLY LEGISLATION ON . . . "PARENTS' RIGHTS IN EDUCATION . . . BANS ON PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION AND HOMOSEXUAL 'MARRIAGE.'"

Olympia—A well-attended Pro-Family Coalition news conference was held today at 1:00 p.m. in the House Rules Room at the State Capitol in Olympia, Washington.

Taking part in the news conference, which included presentations of legislative agenda by state pro-family leaders and state legislators, was Washington for Traditional Values executive director, Robert R. Larimer Jr.

Larimer opened his remarks by declaring: "Honor diversity! Respect diversity! Beginning as code-words for the so-called "homosexual rights" movement, these catch phrases have become commandments, etched into governors' executive orders and King County Executive's proclamations."

Observing that the notion of isolating and honoring such special groups is contrary to the American principle of 'Out of the many, one' (E Pluribus Unum), Larimer noted that preferential treatment and attention lavished on the homosexual political movement leads to cultural chaos.

Challenging the practice of allowing the use of code-words such as 'diversity' to cloak the homosexual agenda, Larimer stated: "Ladies and gentleman of the press, I am not afraid or ashamed to declare who I am and what I stand for. Whenever the word 'diversity' is employed, I believe our opposition should be held to the same standard."

In response to a question on the significance of Republican control of both houses in the1997 Legislature, Larimer noted that over the last decade, southwest Washington has sent an increasingly conservative delegation to Olympia each election cycle - a process that is being duplicated around the state. He said this was due to voters' realization that liberal taxing, spending and social programs and policies endured by citizens have resulted in placing hardships on families.

All speakers at today's Pro-Family Coalition news conference expressed confidence that this session would see the passage of family-friendly legislation on issues such as parents' rights in education and bans on partial-birth abortion and homosexual "marriage."
